It is pertinent in today's information enriched world to prepare students as information problem solvers. The Bonne École Elementary Library recognizes the increasing need for students to know how to access information, understand the accessed information, and apply the acquired information to meet their needs.

ission
The Mission of the library media program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. This mission is accomplished by providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats, by providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas, and by working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students (Information Power, 1998).
The purpose of the library is to provide:

  • Diverse resource and equipment collections appropriate for use by individuals as well as classes in the grade levels served.
  • Organization and maintenance of materials and equipment which facilitates optimum use.
  • Working areas and an environment which are well maintained, well organized and conducive to both learning and enjoyment while using the library resources.
  • Management of the facility and activities that allows flexible access based on patron input and needs assessments.
  • Instruction which promotes a life-long interest in reading, enables library patrons to function efficiently and successfully when pursuing research goals and encourages optimum usage of library materials, resources and services.
  • Support for district and state curriculum and instructional initiatives.
